If you're working, I'm working! You should be working the stems (topics) from the practice exams, including the last one (PE IV) and the timeline. If not that, then stare at the getafive videos. Are you not sure you can write a five on the DBQ, I've put another practice essay prompt on the review page. As I said in  class, I have almost no interest in what happens after Thursday! It's do or die! And this is the critical weekend. Ask me, I'll do my best to help.

hello bustling forum!!

so i'm going through the most recent practice exam and on #16 it says that the aztecs and ottomans were both nomadic groups that migrated to already settled regions and conquered them. i had no idea, and upon research, found that the aztecs conquered some people called the toltecs, who i had literally never heard of. apparently the ottomans originated as nomads too, which makes me wonder why they aren't considered one of the great nomadic empires (take that, mongols!). how did they cease being considered nomadic? and should i know more about these two civilizations' origins? what the heck is a toltec?

The Toltecs were in the central Mexican Highlands, the decendants of Teotehuacan. The Azteca, like the Turkic Ottomans, settled after conquering, much like the Arkansas in South Asia. Having settled, all of these people were no longer pastoral. The mongols in contrast never settled in that way, so they still hold the title of most awesome pastoralists.

I so did not see this and that's a crime. Melissa and I were trying to get through the most recent exam (iv) on number 23. What? It's about the moctezuma and cortes meeting with marina for the translator. I chose a (the extension of regional trading networks and the consolidation of centralized power), because it works a lot better than "The transfer of wealth to new elites and the development of gender roles". I see the first part, but gender roles? What? Dona marina is helping men in their business transactions! She's essential! The only thing that hints to gender was that in the first picture, she's in front of the european guy and in the second picture, she's behind him. Other than that...

Well yeah, but her involvement in the transactions as a translator is not typical for a woman, especially in European society at the time. As the go-between, she's in a position of power.

I'll grant you though, this isn't really a fair question. The food in the foreground of the second picture is especially misleading.

Chalk it up to bad luck, and move on to other stems!

Welcome class of 2019. Some years students collaborate in this space effectively, some years not so much. One thing I know, collaboration significantly enhances learning. If you want access to my thoughts, this is the collaboration space to use. Most people propose an answer to margin questions, big picture question, or anything else related to managing Strayer. Other people can then comment leading to a stronger answer. I'll keep an eye on these pages, and pop in when I think you need me.
