MQ1: What factors contributed to economic globalization in the second half of the twentieth century?
-Aftermath of the world wars and The Great Depression wreaked havoc on the world economy
- International trade, investment, and labor migration rates dropped sue to economic conditions
- Countries turned inward due to economic conditions turning to:
- high tariffs
- economic autonomy
- Post WWII - World Bank and IMF forged global econ. agreements, setting the foundation for globalization (Breton Woods System)
- commercial/financial dealings promoted free trade
- Technology enabled easier and quicker transportation/trade
- containerized shipping
- oil tankers
- air services
- fiber optic cables & the internet later.

I would also add neoliberalism, which favored reduction of tariffs, free global movement of capital, mobile & temporary workforce, privatization of many state-run enterprises, curtailing of government efforts to regulate the economy, and tax & spending cuts.

Also: "The collapse of the of the state-controlled economies of the communist world only furthered such unrestricted global capitalism."

You could also add that the population growth in developing countries added new nations in the world's economy, further fueling globalization.

I think that because this question is talking about the second half of the 20th century, you could leave out the points before WWII. Economic globalization started after WWII because the world economy had collapsed prior to it.

MQ2: In what ways has economic globalization more closely linked the global peoples?
(I had many breaks in between this question, sorry if it seems a little off, please fix, if needed!)

- "Reglobalization" accelerated the circulation of goods, capital, and peoples (exerting diversity and exchange)
- Department stores and supermarkets stocked shelves with foreign goods form every part of the world
- Foreign Direct Investment
- Companies opened factories in foreign companies looking for
cheap labor, looser environmental regulations, and tax breaks
- International credit cards, the movement of capital, and investments allowed for goods and money to be mobile, globally
- Transnational corporation produce goods/deliver services simultaneously in many countries
- Labor Migrations, from less developed to more developed, or poorer to richer countries.

MQ3: What new or sharper divisions has economic globalization generated?

- Since Europe's Industrial Revolution, divisions between rich, industrialized countries and everyone else deepened due to economic globalization
- It worsened the division between the global North and global South because of the capitalist system favoring richer countries
- International problems arose:
- Free world trade, availability/terms of foreign aid, representation in
international economic organizations, the growing crisis of
indebtedness, and environmental/labor standards
- Regional economic differences in agendas:
- Oil rich Middle East vs. banana-producing Central America
- rapidly industrializing China, India, and South Korea vs. impoverished African countries
- Econ. globalization also struck domestic divisions:
- USA - global division of labor caused the shedding of mill's of manufacturing jobs, choosing labor offshore
- Mexico - prosperous and US connected North vs. the agricultural and less developed South; causing the Chiapas rebellion
- China - industrializing economy raised urban salaries to 3x that of rural workers
- (idk if this counts) Anti-globalization degraded corporate controlled, market driven globalization.

MQ4: What distinguished feminism in the industrialized countries from that in the Global South?

"Global North"/ Industrialized
- Feminism lost momentum in the 1920s; whereas most countries achieved universal suffrage
- Second-wave feminism had an emphasis on education and employment
- "women's liberation" viewed patriarchy as an oppressive system of domination
- African American women viewed family/home as an escape from racism vs
- the white middle class feminists who found the family and home oppressive
- non-white women focused on racism and poverty
Global South:
- women were involved in all of the Global South's issues
- women were welcomed by Nationalist and Communist leaders, needing their support
- African feminists resented Western feminist's insistent interest in cultural issues
- Western feminism was sometimes seen as cultural imperialism or associated with colonialism
- women's movements took shape around issues, not always regarding gender
- Kenya - self-help groups allowed for communal support for each other

hey guys, this is my take on mq 5. let me know if i interpreted this question incorrectly or if i am missing any points.

MQ 5 In what respect did the various religious fundamentalisms of the 20th century express hostility to global modernity?

In response to their rejection of modernity, religious fundamentalists employed extensive educational and propaganda efforts, political mobilization of their followers, social welfare programs, and violence. Religious conservative sin the United states called for a return to the "fundamentals" of the faith when outraged by "scientific" approaches the the Bible, Darwinian evolution, and liberal versions of Christianity that supported these ideas. They in return sought to separate themselves from the secular world in their own churches and schools. The Hindutva movement in India began with the BJP and their middle/upper caste supporters who were against non-Muslims and lower castes that were trying to be included by state efforts.

Welcome class of 2020. Some years students collaborate in this space effectively, some years not so much. One thing I know, collaboration significantly enhances learning. If you want access to my thoughts, this is the collaboration space to use. Most people propose an answer to margin questions, big picture question, or anything else related to managing Strayer. Other people can then comment leading to a stronger answer. I'll keep an eye on these pages, and pop in when I think you need me.
