So, what makes the Mongols from so many other empire builders in history?
The Mongols were a lot more religiously tolerant than other conquers and were some of the most supportive people of merchants. They also were extremely flexible in how they conquered and they varied their tactics based on who they were conquering (like making the decision to occupy or just to collect taxes) a lot of other empire builders limited themselves by wanting to create completely identical and assimilated empires.
