Welcome to AP Psych! I love to teach, or rather facilitate learning in, this class. That's because I never have to really motivate students. High School aged people are naturally fascinated by the topics explored in this introduction to the fairly new science of psychology. While of course there are plenty of mysteries left in the field, we know quite a bit about the human mind. Do Rich People Lie More?
This is the NY Times article we'll read in class.

Lot's of former students tell me that this WkiNotes is super helpful. Use it for unit tests and as we review for the AP Exam.

- Over the summer, please read Why Beautiful People... (see below). I'll assess you on that the second day of school. Also please purchase ...Skinner's Box. I'll be assigning parts of that throughout the year. Don't forget to watch the Green video at the very bottom of this page this summer. These Images are links to Amazon.
I selected Why Beautiful People Have More Daughters by Miller & Kanasawa because it is an easy read, and it's entertaining - while doing a nice job of introducing you to the concept of evolutionary psychology. Take it with a grain of salt however, it is designed for a popular audience, and does not meet rigorous academic standards of research and citation.

Again, Opening Skinner's Box does not meet the highest standards of accuracy, but it's close enough, and beautifully written, and fascinating! Slater takes you through all the great breakthrough psychological experiments of the twentieth century.
We'll read parts of this throughout the year, but you might enjoy it over the summer too! |
This will be our primary text for the year. We tried OpenStax last year, but it really didn't meet our needs. The absolute best text for AP Psych is Meyer's AP Edition. Don't get the 2nd edition, it's insanely expensive. The original edition will do nicely.
Or simply grab a used copy of the Meyers' text here! |
Hey, the Green brothers even got in to the act! Watch this 10 minute intro from Hank Green over the summer.
